Welcome to Emerging Futures -- Vol 63! Debunking the Five Myths of Creativity...
Good morning creative creatures,
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind of a week doing presentations, meetings, and workshops in Austria and Ireland. We are now waking from a nap in the back of a taxi traveling from Kilkenny to Dublin.
"The past must be invented
the future must be revised
doing both makes what the present is
- invention never stops
~John Cage
We were delivering the keynote and doing an all-day workshop on innovation at the IRDG Leading Business Innovation Conference 2022 in Kilkenny.
It was a pretty special two days working with some amazing people and having time to go deeper into things. Now it's time for a final nice seafood dinner in Dublin — Irish oysters and fish stew, and then off — Iain’s on to Paris, and Jason is heading back to the States to celebrate Thanksgiving.
We hand-drew over 75 new images and diagrams for these presentations and developed a thorough hour-plus presentation on the logic, processes, and myths of disruptive innovation practices — It is time for us to put down the pens and set away from the keyboard and take a much-deserved break this Friday!
Instead of our traditional 5,000-word newsletter that you've come to expect - we're sharing with you a resource we designed to support the keynotes and workshops we delivered during this trip.
The title of our Keynote: Creating Radical Breakthrough Innovations - Debunking the Five Myths of Innovation. The talk's goal was to daylight five fundamental myths surrounding our general approaches to creativity and offer a distinct pragmatic alternative approach. To do this, we created a webpage of resources to address the key concepts of each myth and suggestions for organizations to avoid repeating them.
We thought you might enjoy these resources and glean some value from them as you also kick back and relax over the long Thanksgiving Weekend or Unthanksgiving Weekend or however, you choose to spend your weekend — and for our friends across the globe - something to dig into as temperatures and seasons shift.
For us, As our trip ends, we're giving thanks for having you in our world. It has been wonderful talking with so many of you via zoom, LinkedIn, and email. These engagements and friendships have changed us. It feels like a new extended community and even family — rich with care, curiosity, and a genuine willingness to experiment.
With that, we wish you a thankful weekend. We'll see you next Friday,
Till Volume 64,
Jason and Iain
