Emerging Futures

Welcome to Emerging Futures -- Volume 1! Kickoff...

Welcome to Emerging Futures - Volume 1! Our weekly newsletter where we share our content from across the interwebs.

Here's what we've been up to this week:

‍

Published on the Website

We announced the launch of our website. Was great to hear positive feedback on the design!

We shared our Guide to Strategic Innovation. Innovation is a process and unique journey - these are some practices and suggestions we like to follow. Some colleagues shared their favorites.

‍

The Conversations on LinkedIn

On LinkedIn we started several conversations. We hope you will add your unique point of view to a current or future post. Here’s what we covered:

The media’s role in making innovation look fast – This one sticks in our craw a little bit...

What’s our culture's role in making innovation look like ideation?

We shared a quote from The Box - one of our favorite innovation books - highlighting there is no such thing as Aha-moments. Our network chimed in with similar innovation examples including the wheel, cryptocurrency and Ikea.

We asked has your innovation journey ever truly wandered? Give it a try this weekend to let your innovations find you.

Finally, Iain shared a great NY Times article plus commentary on how thinking happens outside the brain.

If you need more proof that thinking happens outside the brain Jason shares his embodied experience while teaching embodied experiences - which ended up being the most impactful moment of his class this week.

This one really matters to us — thinking does not happen in the head — and it is hard to even begin to really understand how to innovate from this false assumption. But, we get it -- this is a bit hard to accept at first, so here are a few more great links:

Evan Thompson — a major foundational figure in the field of Embodied Cognition has a great website — well worth a long deep dive.

Inventing Creativity — this is a great history of how we came to have the disembodied model of creativity that we now have.
