Complexity

Complexity is the shorthand term for an approach in the sciences that looks at the self-organizing capacities of open systems.

Critical to this approach is the non-linear nature of most of reality – where we cannot say anything like “this created that.” With complex dynamic adaptive systems, we have to consider context, emergent logics, relational forces, and how forms of order, agency, and creativity arise in ways that far outstrip any individualistic human-centric logic.

Understanding the various forms and logics of complexity is critical to an engagement with creative processes at a systems level.
